300,000 to 400,000 children are born each year to illegal immigrants in America. Despite the illegal status and foreign citizenship of the parent, the U.S. automatically recognizes these children as U.S. citizens by birth. This also happens to children born to persons who are in the U.S. in legal but temporary status. The process of applying for citizenship is costly and time-consuming; therefore, most immigrants’ lose hope before the application process is complete.
