Shonda Rhimes

A High-ranking Producer and Screenwriter

Shonda Rhimes is best known as the creator, head writer and executive producer of the television medical drama Greys Anatomy. It has a spin-off, Private Practice, and a political thriller series, Scandal, both of which have aired on ABC. Rhimes was the executive producer of the ABC television series, Off the Map, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.
In 2007, she was named as one of Time Magazines 100 People Who Help Shape the World. In 2017, Netflix announced that it had established a multi-year development deal with Rhimes, by which all of her future productions would be Netflix Original Series.

She published her first book in 2015. It was a memoir titled Year of Yes: How To Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person.

Rhimes worked as a research director on the documentary Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream. It won the 1995 Peabody Award. In 1998 she made a short film called Blossoms and Veils. She was credited as its film director. She later received an assignment to co-write the HBO movie titled Introducing Dorothy Dandridge in 1999. The movie won numerous awards for its star, Halle Berry.

Rhimes wrote Crossroads in 2001, the debut film of popular singer Britney Spears. The film grossed more than $60 million worldwide. Her next project was Disneys sequel to its popular movie, The Princess Diaries.
Rhimes production company is called Shondaland. Shows included in Shondaland are Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, The Catch and For the People.

Rhimes was made an honorary member of Delta Stigma Theta Sorority in 2015. She has won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for three Emmy Awards. She has additionally won awards from the Writers Guild of America, Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America. She won the Golden Gate Award in 2012.

Greys Anatomy was nominated for Best Continuing Series at the Banff Television Festival. In 2006 and 2007, it was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Greys Anatomy has won five NAACP Image Awards.
